The UN Global Compact Nordic networks launch free online training for Nordic businesses on the Science Based Targets initiative
(Danish version below)
How do companies turn climate ambitions into credible, science-aligned action? And how can they ensure that net-zero targets are not just promises, but backed by robust and transparent methods? These are the questions at the heart of the new Nordic learning programme SBTi Starter Pack.
Developed in collaboration between the UN Global Compact networks in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, this programme is designed for larger Nordic companies preparing to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The programme runs from August to October 2025 and is free of charge for companies committed to the UN Global Compact.
What is SBTi and why does it matter?
The Science Based Targets initiative provides a globally recognised framework for companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement. Committing to SBTi sends a clear message that a company takes its climate responsibility seriously and is working strategically to reduce its climate footprint.
Setting science-based targets not only strengthens a company’s climate credentials but also offers a structured approach to emissions reductions, both within operations and across the value chain. It creates trust among leadership and stakeholders by documenting measurable progress.
For companies ready to take the next step
SBTi Starter Pack is tailored to larger companies in the Nordic region that are ready to anchor climate targets at the core of their strategy. This is not an introduction to climate action, but a programme for businesses already working actively with carbon reductions and now seeking to commit to a recognised framework.
The programme is especially relevant for companies with more than 250 employees in the early stages of the SBTi commitment journey. It does not cover the SBTi route for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or provide basic training in the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol).
Learning, networking and expert insights
Participants will attend three expert-led online sessions, including real-world cases and interactive discussions. In addition, they gain access to a dedicated online forum for peer exchange, direct Q&A with SBTi experts, and curated guidance and tools.
The goal is to equip companies with the knowledge and confidence to take the first step while learning with and from peers across the Nordic region.
Registration and practical info
The programme begins on 28 August and concludes on 2 October. The registration deadline is 15 August 2025. There is no cap on the number of participants per company. To join, companies must be committed to the UN Global Compact and ready to move forward on science-based climate target-setting.
