Deep Dive Sessions – Descriptions

Science-Based Climate Action in Nordics: Managing key decarbonization challenges

Nordic companies are at the forefront of climate action. They currently represent over 10% of SBTi-committed companies worldwide and many of these have already set net-zero targets to be reached within the next few decades. This development is expected to continue as climate action is translated into hard law and concrete investor requirements.

However, cutting emissions is difficult and requires long-term strategic decisions, investments and trade-offs, and diligent management of stakeholders and data.

The aim of this workshop is for climate specialists from Nordic businesses to connect and discuss key decarbonization challenges and opportunities which help reach science-based targets. In the workshop, together with climate experts, we will dive into the dos and don’ts when developing an ambitious climate strategy and engage in discussions on best practice. You will be placed in small discussion groups and asked to identify and discuss common challenges within your current climate strategy and how you can deal with them.

Themes could include supplier engagement, scope 3 data availability and quality, renewable energy sourcing, circular solutions, and more.

Human Rights in the Nordic Business Context: Challenges and Best Practises

The Human Rights deep dive session aims to provide knowledge and explore the unique human rights challenges faced by businesses in the Nordic region. It will provide a platform for participants to share best practices, engage in interactive discussions, and gain insights into effective strategies for integrating human rights into corporate operations, also building on the learnings from the Business & Human Rights Accelerator as rolled out in Finland, Sweden and Denmark in 2023. The workshop will emphasize the importance of respecting and promoting human rights as a fundamental aspect of sustainable and responsible business practices.

The Chatham House rules will apply to all discussions, ensuring confidentiality and a safe environment for sharing.

Navigating Double Materiality and Due Diligence: Challenges and Insights in the Face of Upcoming EU Regulations

The new EU legislation on sustainability reporting requires larger companies to massively improve their sustainability performance and reporting. That calls for increased stakeholder involvement, improved data exchange between suppliers and investors, and increased transparency. In this workshop we will discuss how the Communication on Progress (CoP) framework can help companies deliver on those requirements.

We will dive into how the CoP relates to the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), and how the CoP can be used as tool for supplier engagement, performance and data exchange, and how companies can collaborate within their supply chain to deliver strengthened due diligence processes and a solid approach to double materiality.

The workshop will serve as a platform for participants to share and discuss best practices and gain insights into effective strategies for integrating sustainability into core business and engagement of the supply chain. You will be placed in small discussion groups and asked to identify and discuss common challenges within sustainability reporting and how you can deal with them according to common regulation.
